Isaac

Man oh man oh man...we have a long year ahead of us. The first day of school the kids pretty much jumped out of bed and were ready for school. Even though Tanner said he wasn't happy about it he got up and went. The 2nd day was a little worse but not to bad and by Wednesday I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown.

Thursday and Friday went by in a blur and the light at the end of the tunnel was here. THE GLORIOUS WEEKEND!!!!

The glorious weekend that was beautiful but had a looming threat of a hurricane so we spent a good part of Sunday getting ready for the storm. Some friends came over to change the oil in the generators and make sure they were running.

While everyone else wants a generator to run their frig so their food doesn't go bad, I want one to run a window unit AC. I couldn't care less about the food in my refrigerator if I'm sweating like a crazy person. Besides, my mom is across the street and has food a plenty! :) For the record, I would have invited her over to enjoy my AC as well.

While getting the generators ready we got the call that school would be out Monday-Wednesday! When Christy and I told the kids they literally screamed with delight. So then we all walked to moms for dinner and played in the yard until well past dark. It's what I miss most about Summer, playing outside with friends when bedtimes don't matter.

It made me REALLY REALLY miss Summer. Oh, how I miss it!!

We rode out the "storm" that was barely even rain and enjoyed the gift of a few days of Summer.

I know some parents were saying how it was ridiculous we were out of school and how they didn't know why I was excited because we were going to have to make it up (I've heard we don't have to...has anyone else heard that?) But I live in the now and the now meant no school!! Whoop Whoop!

We brought the king sized mattress into the living room and Ryan joined us on it all day Tuesday and Wednesday.

This morning we got up to go to school and were headed there when we heard their were tornado warnings and that if the kids didn't go to school today that it didn't count against them.

So I'll give you one guess on what we did...we turned the car around ad changed back into the pajamas we had just taken off.

Thank you Isaac for a few more days of having my sidekicks home with me. I really didn't think I'd miss them when they went to school but I really have!

And they'll probably stay home tomorrow because really, who should start their week on a Friday before a holiday?? Not us!

She get it from her Momma

Oh Ryleigh, I want to start this post by saying how much I really do love you. Although I do love you you have a way to stress me out! This is a text I sent to your Dad the other morning before school.
Anytime I say something about you that drives me crazy Ryan responds, She get it from your Momma.

You are just so sassy!

The other day you and I were talking about something (I honestly don't even remember what) and you said "That's HUGE, like my butt!!! Well not my butt, I don't have a butt. (and as she looks ay my butt) It's HUGE like your butt!!"

I would just like to say Miss Priss, I do not have a big butt!

A few days ago it was raining and she wanted to wear your rain boots and skinny jeans. Well I firmly believe if you wear skinny jeans then you have to wear a tunic type shirt. Skinny jeans and a tight shirt just looks terrible. Even if you only weigh 36 pounds. Anyway though, I was trying to get her to wear this super cute shirt that was real flowey and matched her rain boots and she wasn't going for it. I said "Why won't you wear this? It's so cute! I would wear it if it was in my size."

And no lie ya'll she looked me dead in the eyes and said...

"Yea, you would wear it because you wear ugly clothes. I do not wear ugly clothes, ever!"

There's nothing like a 6 year old telling you that you dress bad to make you reevaluate your wardrobe.

New School Year

Monday started a new school year for Ryleigh and Tanner. I was really really sad. Not as most people are about their kids growing up but because they wouldn't be home with me to have fun everyday!

Tan Man started kindergarten. He wasn't really excited about it. He kinda got into packing his lunch and snack but our morning didn't go so well. I had gotten up eary andmade colored pancakes, our tradition to mark special occasions. Once we started getting dressed everything went South. They didn't want to get dressed, Ryleigh didn't want to wear the plaid skirt I had ironed for her. Tanner didn't want to tuck in his shirt because is made him look like a dork (and technically I agree with him, I think Polo shirts shouldn't be tucked in. He actually has probably only tucked in a shirt like 3 times in his life). Then they didn't want to brush their teeth. They were just so whiny!

I mean, I get it. We've had the whole Summer with no alarm clocks or nowhere to be at 8 am! Thankfully Mom walked over around 7:30 and saved the day. Between the both of us we were able to get them dressed, teeth brushed and out the door on time. We even managed to get a few pictures.

Ryleigh of course was excited and got up by herself Monday morning. Other than her wardrobe crisis, (how dare I think she would want to wear a UGLY plaid skirt!!!!) her morning went well. She was excited to be going into 1st grade! She looked to big walking in school. Their classrooms are right beside each other so Tanner was excited to know that Ry was right by him all day.

Once we got to school Tanner was ok. He went right in and sat down. He didn't want me to leave at first but was ok when I did. Ryleigh walked right in and spoke to almost everyone walking down the hall. It's so funny to see her interact with her friends. Both of their teachers said they had a great day!! Tanner even moved to Purple which is the best you can be!! Ry was very jealous, lol!

I'm so thankful that even though our morning got off to a rough start that their days went well. I love these 2 and I can't wait to see what God has in store for them this year!

Weekend Project

This weekend we started a little project. We built Tan Man a loft bed. We had talked about it before but never really did anything. Bless his heart his room has always been kinda an afterthought. He doesn't sleep in there normally so we never really "did it up." Well since I'm home I was on a mission to redo it. I LOVE the idea of a loft bed for kids to give them more room to play.

We started it on Saturday and finished it up on Sunday afternoon with only 2 trips to Lowe's :)  I use the term "we" loosely, as Ryan did 99.9999% of the work.
With a little help from Tan Man.

Here is the almost finished product. I still have to stain it and I plan to do that this week. He LOVES it!! It turned out really good. I like that he has a little seating/play area under his bed. We had a slide that we were going to hook to the other side but when we did they were basically sliding into the wall. So we vetoed that idea.

I'm so thankful for a husband who can do/build/make almost anything. I love that we don't have to call someone when something breaks or we want to build something, he can pretty much do anything. To buy a bed like this at Rooms To Go is almost $800...total cost for us...$113! So props to Ryan for being a pretty awesome Dad! Love you!
And while I'm on the subject of making stuff...My mom went to Tammy's this weekend and came back with this awesome cushion Tammy made me. It's from an old burlap sack that was used for coffee back in the day. the bench is in my foyer and I love how it turned out!
The kids start school tomorrow so say a prayer for us, please!

Fisherman

You know you have a Fisherman in your house...
When you follow
 the trail of fishing poles,
 and it leads
 you to
 this...
He hooked Ry's build a bear and Ryan had to perform "surgery" on him when he got home to get the hook out.
Those pictures were all taken on the same day. That same day we went to moms for breakfast and Larry sent me home with 3 poles and a tackle box that was all Tanner's and had made it's way to their house. That buys loves to mess with his rods, ALL DAY LONG!

Wipeout!

These are Evan, Ryan, Wesley and Whitney's best wipeouts from this past weekend! Wesley texted me on Monday and said he was really hurting. We aren't as young as we used to be!

Weekend in the Woods

This past weekend my entire family headed to a weekend in the woods. 20 people+3 cabins+ a cabin mix up that resulted in us only having 6 beds= an interesting weekend!

We went down on Thursday afternoon and it rained pretty bad on Thursday so we just stayed in that night and played card games. We prayed really hard for no rain the rest of the weekend and it didn't rain! We went to Flint Creek in Wiggins, MS.

Look how much darker my legs are than Whitney's! She looks like someone off of Twilight!

One of my favorite things about the weekend was that I didn't fix my hair or put makeup on at all. It was glorious!

Uncle Ronnie and Tanner bonded over fishing stories.
LOVE this girl, the end.
Evan will be a senior this year and is being scouted by a lot of professional baseball teams. He'll probably end up signing pro right out of high school in the first few rounds of the draft. Needless to say I'm way nicer to him than I have ever been, lol! I'm kidding. Evan and I have always had a special bond. I think it's because we are the moodiest and best looking 2 in the family! :) We are so proud of you Evan!

Look!!!! Whit can wakeboard!!! She stayed up for 10 seconds!

Here's the cabins we stayed in. They were all 3 right beside each other but secluded from any other cabins. Other than the bed situation they were perfect! They had AC and hot water and that's all I care about.
We really did have a great time. There were some small arguments, some tears, lot and lots of laughs, some good stories told and some great memories made. I'm so thankful for my family and weekends like these.
